How Continuous Improvement (CI) can support our Equity work and how our Equity work can support CI
THIS IS A PERFORMANCE TASK THAT IS APART OF AN INTERVIEW PROCESS:
As the Staff Associate for Equity and Continuous Improvement, you will provide critical logistical support for management and execution of activities related to the development and implementation of Baltimore City Public Schools’ equity driven continuous improvement structure. You will play a pivotal role in pursuing and driving the achievement of the CEO’s strategic initiatives, which includes the City Schools Equity Policy and cultivating a districtwide culture of learning. Fundamental to this work will be better integrating and aligning the district’s Continuous Improvement (CI) and Equity work.
For your performance task, we ask you to draft a 1-2 page memo to Dr. Tracey L. Durant, Executive Director of the Office of Equity, and Jennie Wu, Executive Director of Strategy and Continuous Improvement. The memo should focus on the alignment of these two bodies of work; specifically, how CI can support our Equity work and how our Equity work can support CI.
To support you in this task, we’re providing the district’s groundbreaking equity policy (LINK FOR EQUITY POLICY IS INCLUDE IN PDF BELOW TITLED “Performance Task.docx.pdf”), adopted in 2019, which sets specific directives related to four themes:
Disrupting and Eliminating Systemic Inequities
Honoring Culture, Experiences, & Humanity of Students, Families & Community
Ensuring Access & Representation in Academic Programming
Building Staff Capacity for Equity-based Teaching and Leading
In addition, we’ve attached a PowerPoint with a high-level overview of the district’s CI strategy, including the overarching rationale of the work, the structure we created to carry out the work, and the unique qualities of the process.
